The Deer Isle Chronicle goes live with first article
Hello, world
The Deer Isle Chronicle is pleased to publish this, our first article, just in time for the traditional three weekends of real summer here: Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, 2009; the lobster boat races on Sunday, July 12; and Fisherman’s Day sponsored by the Fisherman Wives Association on Sunday, July 19.
We are an occasional, seasonal on-line newspaper aimed at giving readers the pleasure of enjoying Deer Isle and Stonington, Maine, via the world wide web.
Deer Isle is an island on which are located the villages of Deer Isle and Stonington that together encompass the land mass of the island.
This is a place so far away from every place else as to be its own place. You can’t “get” here from where you are unless you happen to have been born here. Everyone else is “from away”, which means you can’t get what this place is about even when you are here.
The publisher of The Deer Isle Chronicle is from away, but Lily Mae, his black Labrador retriever, was born here. This means the publisher is tolerated since if your close relative is from here, especially your dog, you’re OK.
