Sara W. Forster recently published a beautiful book of her cut paper collages about Stonington.

img004a-425x422When Sara’s not busy summers on her Stonington porch sketching, cutting, and pasteing, she and her husband Dieter enjoy the other fine arts in Stonington including shows at the Stonington Opera House next door. Sara and Dieter live in Philadelphia during the winter.

Sara’s new book, Stonington, Maine, A Personal View, is a treasure of her view, in text and collages, of Stonington in summer. Her personal view shows all the best of Stonington:

  • The Opera House with a couple picking cherries from her cherry tree on the hill
  • The red auto parts/fishing gear store owned by “the girls” across the street
  • Day visitors looking at the granite statue at the town pier
  • Burnt Cove Church around the corner from Burnt Cove Market
  • An artist and a walker at the Ames Lily Pond
  • The ice cream shop and several art galleries on Main Street
  • Strollers on Indian Point Road
  • Fireworks over the Deer Isle Thorofare in the dark night sky on the Fourth of July
  • Everyone’s favorite social gathering spot, the town dump

Sara holds out the promise of more of her views in her final paragraph about the neighboring village of Deer Isle. “But that,” she says, “is another story.”

Our personal view is that Sara’s book is a treasure. You can purchase a copy, as well as note cards of the collages, by getting in touch with Sara at sarawforster@aol.com or by visiting Al at his book store on the waterfront off of West Main Street, Stonington.
